Michelin-starred restaurants in La Rioja and surroundings

michelin stars logroño

In Spain we can boast of a first class gastronomy.. The tradition in the kitchen of our country, together with the enormous variety and culinary richness that exists in the different areas of the peninsula, allows each of the regions to boast excellent dishes and products of their own, and this has led to a range of restaurants of the highest category.

One of the most prestigious distinctions at an international level in relation to the culinary quality of hotel establishments is the "The Restaurant of the Year", which is awarded to restaurants that achieve excellence in certain aspects judged by their critics. the stars of the Michelin GuideThe Michelin Star, a recognition awarded to restaurants that achieve excellence in certain aspects judged by their critics.

If you are coming soon to visit us at Vivanco and would like to know some of the Michelin-starred restaurants in La Rioja and other nearby regions, here is an overview of some of the most prestigious ones.

Michelin-starred restaurants in Logroño

1. Kiro Sushi

We begin our tour of some of the Michelin-starred restaurants in La Rioja at the Kiro SushiThe restaurant specialises in Japanese food and will delight the most demanding palates when it comes to Japanese gastronomy. With a limit of only 10 diners per service to guarantee a meal in a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, this restaurant is a jewel that respects the most authentic tradition of classic Japanese restaurants.

As for its star dishes, Kiro Sushi's speciality is nigiris, which are prepared live on a wooden bar in front of the customers.

2. Ikaro

Ikaro is another restaurant in Logroño that boasts a Michelin star. Its chefs Iñaki and Carolina are true masters of the kitchen, who describe their cuisine with the adjectives humble and provocative. The menu at Ikaro is changeable, as its creators defend a proposal of fresh and seasonal products, so it is seasonality that dictates which are the protagonists of their cuisine at any given moment. Of course, with an excellent wine list, both Rioja and from other regions, to accompany the dishes.

Other Michelin-starred restaurants in La Rioja

3. The Echaurren Portal

As well as in the capital, Logroño, there are other prestigious restaurants throughout La Rioja that boast this recognition. The one that is perhaps the most famous in recent years is the restaurant El Portallocated in the Hotel Echaurren, in the town of Ezcaray.

It has almost two decades of history and two well-deserved Michelin stars in relation to the quality of its gastronomic proposal, which focuses on offering very creative dishes, but always with first class products and with an excellent wine pairing option, to enhance even more the richness of its flavours and textures.

By the way, don't forget to try their creamy croquettes, one of the most famous in Spain.

4. Venta Moncalvillo

Our last stop in La Rioja is the restaurant located in the small village of Daroca de Rioja. Venta Moncalvillo, located in the small village of Daroca de Rioja, whose main attraction at present is, precisely, this establishment. Its founders, the Echapresto brothers, have opted for a sober menu where local produce is the main protagonist. An unpretentious proposal, but with a lot of success that has given it one of the most charming Michelin stars in La Rioja.

Michelin-starred restaurants in the Basque Country, Navarre and Burgos

If you are visiting Vivanco and you want to take advantage of your getaway to enjoy the high gastronomy offered by Michelin-starred restaurants outside our region, in the vicinity (less than 150 kilometres) of Briones you can find the following.

5. Cobo Vintage

Just 96 kilometres from Briones, in the heart of the historic centre of Burgos, we can find the restaurant Cobo Vintage run by the chef Miguel Cobo. In this establishment diners can enjoy a unique experience, as its menu combines the flavour of traditional Castilian cuisine and implements "nouvelle cuisine" techniques in these dishes.

A gastronomic proposal, in which snack or aperitif dishes predominate, whose aim is to enhance the senses of any lover of good food.

6. Rodero and Europa restaurant

In Navarre, more specifically in Pamplona, there are two authentic classics of the hotel and catering industry: the restaurant Europa and the restaurant Roderoboth of which have been awarded a Michelin star. Their cuisine has been one of the most prestigious in the capital of Navarre for many years. In the Rodero, a complete menu with proposals that combine tradition with more modern touches in an exquisite setting. No less can be said of the Europa, located in the hotel of the same name, where the menu is closer to the more classic recipes of the region.

7. Akelarre, Arzak and Azurmendi

Finally, there are many Michelin-starred restaurants in the Basque Country in any of its three provinces. However, although the closest to Vivanco is Álava, our recommendation is to go to the provinces of Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya and visit some of the gastronomic flagships of these areas such as the Akelarre or the Arzakin San Sebastian, which has three Michelin stars, or the Azurmendiin Larrabeztu (Vizcaya), also with three Michelin stars.
