The best viewpoints and balconies to see La Rioja in 360°.

La Rioja offers us so many possibilities to enjoy it, that one of them is to take a look at the different viewpoints that are scattered throughout the community. Exquisite corners and balconies that will show us the Riojan landscape of our choice in all its splendour.

In the following post we present some of these viewpoints so that you can contemplate the grandeur of La Rioja as you have never done before, to look at it and observe it carefully in a different way.

Balconies and viewpoints with the best views of La Rioja

A 'vantage point' is a place, usually at an elevated point, from which an urban or natural landscape can be easily viewed.

In La Rioja we can find many of these viewpoints, balconies, strategic places that give us spectacular views and that were already occupied by the first settlers of the Ebro Valley, preserved so that we can enjoy them and get to know this land better. We will now take a look at the recommended viewpoints in La Rioja:

  • Villaverde viewpoint

Located in the heart of the Najerilla valley, just 49 km from Logroño, it is accessed from a secondary road in the direction of San Millán de la Cogolla. This viewpoint offers possibly one of the best views of La Rioja.

  • Viewpoint of the Leza River Canyon

This viewpoint is also known as Mirador del Torrejón and is located on a natural ledge, on one of the walls of the canyon itself and perfectly conditioned to contemplate the spectacle it offers, including the fauna and flora of the place.

It can be reached by road (LR-250) from Logroño, which runs along the valley of the river Leza, located between the towns of Río Leza and Soto en Cameros. We can also take advantage of the visit to visit the village of Soto or the picturesque village of Trevijano, among other places.

  • Enciso Castle viewpoint

From here you can admire the scenery of the Cidacos Valley and go sightseeing in the La Rioja Biosphere Reserve, where you can enjoy a wide range of activities and visit exciting places.

  • Arnedo Castle viewpoint

From this old Muslim fortress, built strategically to control the area, one of the most privileged views of the town and the entire valley of the river Cidacos, as well as other neighbouring towns, can be seen.

  • Mirador del Buitre (Arnedillo)

It is a centre for the interpretation and observation of the griffon vulture, unique in Europe. Visitors to the centre will be able to observe the griffon vulture and its chicks live. Undoubtedly a unique space, a different visit to enjoy nature in its purest form.

  • Viewpoint of the storks (Alfaro)

This viewpoint, built over the Collegiate Church of San Miguel in Alfaro, is undoubtedly an original visit, designed especially for children and also focused on family tourism. It is also an opportunity to see the largest colony of white storks known in the world and from here the views of Alfaro and its surroundings are truly impressive. If you want to get another good view of Alfaro and the Sotos del Ebro Nature Reserve, you can do so from the viewpoint known as Mirador de la Cruz.

  • Viewpoint Puerta de Cameros (Islallana)

Located at the top of Islallana and at the foot of what is known as the "Puerta de Cameros", which gives access to the mountain range of the same name, it has become a recent tourist attraction, offering privileged views of the surroundings of the Peñas and the Iregua Valley.

  • Viewpoint of the Castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra

The view from this enclave is one of the most beautiful in La Rioja, as from here you can see the peaks of the Sierra de Cantabria (to the north) and the Sierra de la Demanda (to the south). This viewpoint over the Ebro offers varied landscapes that give us another example of the natural wealth of this region (vineyards, pine and Aleppo pine forests, banks of the Ebro) etc.

  • Viewpoint of the San Felices de Bilibio Hermitage (Haro)

Recently we talked about this unique and unrepeatable space located 6km from the town of Haro, a must if you come to La Rioja and which was declared "Best place in Spain in 2014" by the Repsol Guide.

From the top of the Bilibio cliffs where this chapel is located and where the figure of San Felices stands, you can enjoy a sensational panoramic view of the vineyards of this area of the Rioja Alta and the river Ebro as it enters the community. Furthermore, if you take the opportunity to visit the town of Haro, in a short time, on 29 June to be precise, you will be able to experience first-hand the famous "Wine Battle" festival, declared a festival of national tourist interest.

  • Briones viewpoint

Briones, known above all for its wines and its beautiful historic centre, "hides" incredible viewpoints that show us some of the most beautiful landscapes of La Rioja, such as the Sierra de la Demanda (to the south), the Sierra de Cantabria, with Peñacerrada and Toloño (to the north) and the ever-present Ebro, showing us some beautiful meanders as it passes through this town. And of course, if you come to Briones, Vivanco together with its winery and its Museum of Wine Culture. they are an unmissable visit.

These viewpoints are the ones we have selected, but there are many more to discover La Rioja from another point of view, from other places, from those enclaves "chosen" for our enjoyment, to get to know and understand La Rioja from our own eyes, from our own point of view.
