VINTAGE
2022
varieties
Tempranillo (96%) of great genetic variability as a result of an old massal selection, Moristel and red Garnacha (2%) and another 2% of white varieties, mainly Viura and a small part of Calagraño. Planted in 1973.
HARVEST
All the grapes were harvested manually into small crates on 25th September 2022.
production
Number of bottles: 1,434 x 75 cl and 24 magnums.
WINEMAKING
All the grapes are refrigerated in a cold chamber and pass through a double selection table for bunches and berries. After a gentle crushing, the grapes are placed by gravity in small French oak vats where they ferment and macerate in contact with the skins at a controlled maximum temperature of 28 °C, receiving light pumping over and punching down for approximately 20 days.
upbringing
A significant portion of the wine remains for 12 months in extra-fine-grained French oak barrels, both new and previously used, in 225-litre and 500-litre formats. The other portion matures on its lees in small tanks for the same period. The wine was bottled in November 2023 and has remained in underground cellars for a minimum of 24 months before its release to the market.

Tasting sheet
the island, the 2022 vintage
Heat, little water and vineyard resilience. These are the main characteristics of the 2022 vintage. Above all, due to the first factor, with very high average temperatures, more than a degree higher than the previous vintage, and with a first heatwave at the beginning of June, the second week, unseen before at that time of year, with temperatures above 40°C. Brutal. The vine defended itself well, protecting itself, limiting its activity, showing better adaptation in vineyards with organic viticulture, as is our case. Vineyard operations were minimal, keeping as many leaves as possible around the bunches to keep them as exposed to the sun as possible. Water, just enough, with very little influence from diseases such as downy mildew and powdery mildew. The harvest was brought forward by two weeks, with exceptional fruit quality, sweeter but mature tannins. The challenge was to achieve balance, in an almost constant battle against climate change. The wine offers this and clearly shows it.
