THIS WAS THE 2021 VINTAGE
We leave behind the wet and complicated 2020 to enter one of the best vintages of the last decade in Rioja, 2021. It was a textbook climatic year, with a large amount of accumulated rainfall, especially the significant snowfall caused by the Filomena squall at the beginning of January. This, together with the cold, gave way to a late bud break and a rainy and rather cold spring. The summer was rather dry, with low temperatures in July, which, together with an August and September that were also mild, led to a slow and leisurely ripening, offering direct wines, full of fruity aromas and with a great capacity for ageing. An exceptional vintage with a long life ahead of it.
BRIONES, The landscape
BRIONES is located in the heart of the Rioja Alta, at an altitude of 502 metres above sea level. Within its perimeter, a total of 1,400 hectares of vineyards are cultivated under the DOCa Rioja. This places it among the municipalities with the longest winemaking tradition in the area. Its climatic influences are predominantly Atlantic, with harvest dates around the first week of October.
With variable soils, the stony and light soils, close to the Ebro River, coexist with the more calcareous clayey soils of the southern area. A terroir of great quality, extremely suitable for the cultivation of Tempranillo and shorter-cycle varieties such as Maturana Tinta.
