WINERY
Vivanco Wineries is located in Briones, a privileged enclave of Upper Riojain the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria and on the banks of the river Ebro. An area with a mild microclimate and extraordinary clay-limestone soils.
Around the winery we find the El Cantillo FarmIt is so called because of the amount of boulders on the ground. Tempranillo is the main varietybut not the only one. In this vineyard we can also find other varieties that we use in our wines: Graciano, Garnacha, Mazuelo, Viura, Malvasía, etc.
The underground cellar is functional and aesthetically pleasing. The building was built underground in order to eliminate as little of the vineyard as possible and to minimise the environmental impact in favour of landscape conservation. By building the winery underground, it was also possible to favour naturally balanced temperature and humidity conditions all year round, which are essential for the good conservation and ageing of the wine in barrels or oak vats.
Rafael Vivanco's pioneering winemaking spirit is reflected not only in his wines, but also in his experimentation and research into different cultivation and winemaking methods, in the use of minority varieties and in the ageing in oak from different origins.
